no DNS for google site

Hi

www.riversafetycouncil.org -> ghs.google.com -> sites.google.com/site/riversafetycouncil2/

This used to work via your DNS, but about a month ago the DNS failed & the account of the person who set it up on your system was removed. I was asked to fix it, but have not been successful so far.

I setup the google end (http://www.riversafetycouncil.org,si...afetycouncil2/)

I added a CNAME on your DNS ~40 hours ago
(www.riversafetycouncil.org CNAME ghs.google.com), but see no result yet.

Do I just need to wait or have I done it wrong?

you need to change the name servers at your registrar as they still point to the old system.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I saw the "Name Server:NS1.US.EDITDNS.NET" lines in the whois result, but did not realize that those determined the authorative DNS server.
I have asked the administrator in the whois result to get those changed.

I do not understand your other instructions below:

Are you saying that I need to add extra records on EDITDNS.NET ?
I made some assumptions & added:
RIVERSAFETYCOUNCIL.ORG NS free01.editdns.net
RIVERSAFETYCOUNCIL.ORG NS free02.editdns.net

So now there are 3 records on EDITDNS.NET:
RIVERSAFETYCOUNCIL.ORG NS free01.editdns.net
RIVERSAFETYCOUNCIL.ORG NS free02.editdns.net
www.RIVERSAFETYCOUNCIL.ORG CNAME ghs.google.com
Is this the correct & complete set? Or do I need an A record?

As I am a beginner at DNS setup, any advice (especially with complete & exact examples) would be most useful.

yes thats correct, once the name servers are changed at your registrar it should work.
if you use email on that domain you also need to add the MX records.

No email that I know of at this time.

It looks like I just have to wait a day or so & all will be OK. Here's hoping...

I waited 5 days & it is still not propogated. Old data visible in whois lookup.

The registrar said that they merely registered the domain, have no current paid account for this domain & do not do ongoing whois Name Server changes. They suggest that the whois Name Server changes should be made by the DNS provider.

Can someone at EDITDNS make the changes as shown below?

Currently:

Name Server:NS1.US.EDITDNS.NET
Name Server:NS2.US.EDITDNS.NET
Name Server:NS3.US.EDITDNS.NET

Need to be:

Name Server:FREE01.EDITDNS.NET
Name Server:FREE02.EDITDNS.NET

We can't do that for you, the place where you bought your domain needs to do it.
